A Sunny Wedding Day For Swanage Pier Wedding Photographs

Join us for Swanage Pier wedding photographs from Kim & Ian’s big day. Kim and Ian are a lovely couple, who graced us with their presence for an intimate engagement photoshoot on Studland Beach earlier this year.

Well, the big day we eagerly awaited finally arrived! As we embarked on a journey of international wedding planning across time zones, uncertainty loomed large. The weather gods seemed less than kind, but, as you’ll soon discover, the Purbeck microclimate had other plans. As experienced Dorset wedding photographers we know very well the weather can change in an instant. Kim and Ian enjoyed a sun-drenched celebration.

Bridal Preparation Photos in the Heart of Swanage

The wedding day began at the delightful Grade II listed Passiflora Cottage. Nestled in the heart of Swanage it was the perfect bridal preparation location. Inside, the bridal party gathered around the wooden dining table. Mirrors galore allowed for intricate makeup and hair adjustments. They also allowed us unachievable angles in the small space for capturing the proceedings

Bright sunlight streamed through the cottage’s windows, adding high contrast to the scene. Kim’s American family, including her mother and close friends, added to the relaxed joyful ambiance. The makeup artist arrived with a vast collection of brushes that left us in awe.
In our conversations with Kim before the big day, we anticipated hot pink accents throughout the day. This included her gorgeous pair of hot pink Gianvito Rossi bowed heels. She had sensibly also opted for a pair of pink converses for the walking parts of the day.

However, nothing could have prepared us for the unique twist in her wedding flowers. The magnificent creations from Dana’s Paper Flowers took us by surprise. Kim’s bouquet was crafted from colorful paper and ski maps. Paying homage to Kim and Ian’s shared passion for skiing. As a touching tribute to her late father, Kim carried a small framed picture of him on the stem of her bouquet.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Kim’s exquisite white A-line wedding dress awaited its moment in the spotlight. As she donned her gown, a custom feather fascinator from Pinkham Millinery added the perfect finishing touch to her ensemble.

Finally, with preparations complete, the bridal party set off towards Swanage Pier. The locals and holidaymakers alike raised their eyebrows with shouts of “good luck” along the way

Groom’s Preparation Photos at The Cellar Bar

While Kim and her bridesmaids were preparing, Ian and his groomsmen sought some “Dutch courage” at The Cellar Bar.
Ian looked exceptionally dapper. He was sporting a maroon flat cap and bow tie. Both seamlessly complementing his Peaky Blinders-inspired three-piece suit. After much japery and a quick ring check, Ian took one last deep breath. He then strolled along the shoreline onto the pier.

For years, we’ve said that Swanage Pier would make an wonderful setting for outdoor wedding ceremonies. Especially during the summer months. It’s not just the Victorian charm that sets it apart. It’s also the stunning 360-degree views that encompass the Dorset sea, Purbeck Hills, and Swanage Bay. So we were doubly excited to be shooting such a lovely couple marrying on the top deck

Emily Colle wedding co-ordinator and her very safe hands made sure that Ian greeted guests onto the pier. They were ready and waiting for Kim and her flower girls. With Murray already in attendance, capturing the pier’s ‘goings on’ I joined Ian at the top of the aisle. Quickly helping Adam, the couple’s little videographer for the day, all that was left to do was join in the anticipation.

It’s a long walk from Swanage Pier entrance to the ceremony location on the upper deck as Ian found out. Waiting in the sun, surrounded by family and friends he showed mixed signs of patience and nerves. They could catch glimpses of Kim and her flower girls off in the distance. Her white dress catching the sun against the backdrop of the sea and the Victorian wood and ironwork.

After disappearing from view on the lower deck, Kim reappeared closer, a vision of elegance. Her flower girls, dressed in hot pink, led the way, scattering petals along the aisle. Ian waited for Kim to walk the aisle before taking his first look – a big grin taking over his face.

Next, the wedding party was treated to a windy yet sun-baked wedding ceremony. Dorset registrars led proceedings, so full of love and happiness. The wedding guest’s readings fitted right in. After the exchange of rings the newlyweds sealed their vows with a kiss. The guests bust into rapturous applause.

Wedding Reception and Memories From Swanage Pier

The Swanage Pier Trust laid on delicious canapés and refreshments. Allowing the wedding party to savor the breathtaking coastal views. With such stunning backdrops, we whipped through the formal group photographs. Then spending ten minutes with Kim and Ian, relaxing alone on the pier.

Afterwards we looked back toward Swanage Bay from the pier, a large red vehicle appeared on the horizon. Kim and Ian had arranged for a magnificent 1950s classic Red London Routemaster Bus to transport their guests from Premier Carriage. The scenic journey wound through Swanage’s streets, the Purbeck countryside, and the ancient village of Corfe, home to the famous ruined castle. A stop at Studland Viewpoint treated guests to an elevated view over Arne, Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island, Poole, and Bournemouth before reaching the Purbeck Golf Club.

Purbeck Golf Club Wedding Reception Photographs

We love Purbeck Golf Club as a wedding venue. Although still open to members it feels like you have the whole place to yourselves, stunning views and all.

Inside, the dining room presented panoramic countryside views. It was adorned with a white wedding/ski theme. Each table was aptly named after one of Kim and Ian’s cherished skiing destinations. Featuring ski stickers throughout. Alongside the bar sat an impressive range of cakes supplied by local cake experts Love Cake. These sweet treats surrounded Ian’s tower of cheese, sourced from our local Deli.

The evening sun started to dip and the light faded to a misty orange glow. As their guests were treated to drinks Kim and Ian took off in a golf cart. We then headed across the course to the renounced 5th tee, known to golfers as “one of the finest views in British golf”. Against the fading light, we left the happy couple alone. We captured some intimate moments, their sweet affection for each other shining through.

Back in the warm clubhouse Kim and Ian Joined their wedding guests. The happy chatter rose and fell to silence as three mouth-watering courses of the wedding breakfast were served. Deer could be seen running across the course. Meanwhile, the smaller guests entertained themselves on the dancefloor.

Wedding Evening Celebrations at Purbeck Golf Club

The moment then arrived for Kim and Ian to cut the larger of the cakes. Thus setting the stage for a heartfelt toast. Next DJ ‘Disco Stew’ announced the first dance. Soon after the newlyweds gracefully swayed to the music, surrounded by their beloved family and friends.
