Planning ‘Secret’ Lulworth Cove Photographs
This is the story of James and Leila’s Lulworth Cove proposal photographs. James contacted us a few months back with a plan for proposing down the road at Lulworth Cove. He was understandable a little nervous and wanted to thoroughly plan the occasion. Many phone calls and emails later we had formulated a well-coordinated plan.
James even added on a few hours when journeying to a wedding to meet up on location. We scoped out his favourite places at Lulworth Cove, worked out a plan B and C and our secret signals. As with any proposal shoot, the better the planning, the more relaxed the experience. Also the better the photographs will be.
The next week James and Leila were on holiday. Both staying at Rudds Hotel in Lulworth Cove. We were watching the weather forecast (as we do for every proposal shoot) with horror. It turns out that James had chosen the exact time and place for a freak thunderstorm to come in! With limited options for shelter for Lulworth Cove proposal photographs, we rescheduled for the next day.
Lulworth Cove Proposal Photographs
Hannah and I arrived early at the cove to set up on location. By absolute lucky chance, we saw James looking out of his window at Rudds Hotel, keeping an eye on the weather. We have no idea how he managed to keep a straight face upon seeing us. We guessed that the nerves had kicked in.
Up at the viewpoint above Lulworth Cove, we pretended to be a tourist couple. Merrily taking photographs of each other. All the time we tracked James and Leila over each other’s shoulders as they walked up the footpath.
Down On One Knee By The Sea
We had previously decided that “seeing some dolphins” would be a good distraction to get Leila to look out over the sea. As arranged James removed his hat to indicate that he was about to get down on one knee. Biting the bullet he then proceeded to propose to Leila. All the time we were documenting, creating Lulworth Cove proposal photographs.
She Said Yes!
There is always a toe-curling pause at every marriage proposal shoot. The time between one partner seeing the other down on one knee and them realising what is going on. After a little shock and laughter, Leila said yes, then yes, yes, and yes again! This was further confirmed with hugs and kisses.
Newly Engaged Couple Photographs At Lulworth Cove, Dorset
We gave them a little time together with the amazing view to recover from the nerves and adrenalin and politely introduced ourselves. We then took a walk around the nearby footpaths. Finding some locations to take couple photographs of the guys with the Lulworth Cove in the background.
Here Comes The Rain
As they stood on the highest point above the cove we could see the threatening rain clouds coming back in for another downpour. Cameras up, we captured their shades and textures in a silhouette photo.
Realising that time was no longer on our side we quickly composed a panoramic photograph and headed down to the beach. Typically for this time of year, the beach at Lulworth Cove was already extremely busy. We, therefore, focused on areas of interest without crowds of people.
Engaged Couple Intimate Portrait Photographs
An old rusty fisherman’s hut made a fantastic backdrop for some more intimate photos of the guys. Down by the water’s edge, we were able to take photos of James and Leila together in the landscape. They were obviously head over heels in love and excited, hugging, kissing, and laughing all the way through the shoot.
Couple Photos On Lulworth Beach
A final walk along the stony beach was followed by a quick stop in front of some fisherman’s pots. We drank a celebratory coffee together before saying goodbye. We could tell that the guys were still happily buzzing from the proposal. This you can clearly see in their Lulworth Cove proposal photographs.
We would like to say a big thank you to Lulworth Estate for their kind permission and licence to shoot on their land as well as Lulworth Weddings for, as always, being fantastic.

Recently a lovely chap named Dean reached out to us with his heartwarming plan for a surprise marriage proposal. It was clear that something extraordinary was in the works. He wanted the moment to unfold against the backdrop of a glorious sunrise or a mesmerizing sunset on the Purbeck coast. We eagerly embraced the idea of early morning sunrise marriage proposal photos.
