London Engagement Photographs at Home with Simon and Octavia
The other week I had a drive down memory lane, all the way through London town to meet one of our lovely 2014 wedding couples Simon and Octavia.
They have chosen one of our favourite wedding venues, Stockbridge Farm Barn near Sherborne in Dorset. Stockbridge Farm Barn is the perfect wedding venue for couples who really wish to put their personal stamp on their big day and the wooden medieval barn will work wonderfully with the chosen ‘country vintage’ theme. They are what I would call a seriously stylishly couple, my girlfriend tells me she would kill for the dress that Octavia was wearing for the engagement shoot, so I am expecting something special on their wedding day.
Octavia owns and runs the incredibly successful Be-Bop-a-Lula, supplying a growing collection of design-led greeting cards, home ware and accessories. She designs and hand makes every one of her items using only the best quality vintage and UK-sourced materials, so I expect that she will be paying particular attention to any wedding elements requiring design or creation.
Simon is a musician so it was no surprise that the wedding band selection was a priority for the happy couple. They have chosen The Sweet and Lowdown, who have been descried as a “Super-cool speakeasy-style 4-piece”, their showcase video is well worth a watch on YouTube here. We can’t wait to photograph these guys playing live to a dancing wedding party
Now that Stockbridge Farm Barn is also a registered ceremony venue the huge barn serves a multi purpose and functions fantastically as a wedding ceremony, wedding reception and wedding evening venue. On the big day Simon and Octavia will be decorating the barn with a mass of wedding bunting and pom poms. After we had got to know each other a little better (I always find a chat with clients before an engagement shoot allows them to relax in front of the camera) we opted for some photographs in the beautiful garden. As the smells of the Sunday roast wafted gently across the lawn we borrowed a rocking horse used at Octavia’s sister’s wedding as a prop and then promptly had a spot of high tea- lovely! Despite the impending rain the guys wanted to stretch their legs and in the wet we strolled around the block under umbrellas, not forgetting before I left to capture some images of Simon and Octavia with the family dogs. We have many clients who travel from London to Dorset for their wedding day and we typically work their engagement shoots at countryside locations so it was a refreshing change to be able to visit this happy couple for their London engagement photo shoot.
