Sandbanks Beach Engagement Photographs in Dorset

Tom & Catherine are to be married this Friday at Crowe Hill Methodist Church with their reception at the superb wedding venue, Harbour Heights Hotel.

We met them and Catherine’s parents for an engagement photo shoot in Sandbanks Hotel. The perfect opportunity to catch up with their plans for the big day.

To say Catherine is well organised is an understatement!

For those of you who know me you will know that when a bride gives me a colour coded spreadsheet for their wedding day I achieve a heightened state of ambivalence.

On one hand we know exactly what is happening, when and where the day will progress. On the other hand the possible underestimation of the amount of time and fluidity that is required for the group photographs sends me into a cold sweat!

As documentary photographers we always recommend keeping the group photographs to a minimum due to the amount of time and interruption they bring.

I once remember a bride sending over her chosen group photographs and asking “how long do you think these will take?”. After searching through the small booklet I had printed off the honest answer was “About four and a half hours if we rush”.

Standing around waiting is probably the last thing a bride and groom and their guests want to be doing all day.

Fortunately Catherine and Tom are actually quite relaxed about their wedding plans and she had highlighted those groups most important to them along with the beautiful details of her big day.

I love it when a bride chooses the Harbour Heights Hotel as her wedding venue. Not only does the spacious building provide stunning views across Poole Harbour and Purbeck but the staff are incredibly skilled when it comes to running a wedding. They can never do enough to help.

After the coffees were finished (at Sandbanks Hotel- itself a splendid wedding venue) we walked out into the balmy sunshine on Sandbanks beach for their engagement photo shoot.

Again Catherine and Tom seemed pretty relaxed in front of the camera. After a few jokes were smiling and laughing away.

We even had time to include Catherine’s parents in the experience- which again will help on the big day.

Catherine has since emailed over a picture of her mother and father on their wedding day in the back of the car.

I love re-creating images from the past and I wonder if Tom and Catherine’s children will do the same with the wedding photographs we take! We can’t wait until Friday.
